Anaaya(my daughter) was given a project by her Grade 1 class teacher. The kids had to observe the entire process of germination over two weeks and bring the plant to the class for a show and tell. She told me about it just the night before it was due. I told her that it was not possible to come up with a plant overnight. The look on her face was of intense fear, as if the worst calamity was coming her way. She started to cry profusely because she was really scared that her teacher would scold her. At that time, we were driving to the Gazdar ashram as were going to spend the night there. I did feel bad for her but I was helpless. I told her that I could not help her to get a plant and ONLY Nitinmama can do it. The moment she met Nitindada, the first thing she did was ask HIM if HE could give her a plant. HE just smiled and did not say anything**.
As we placed many dried moong beans on wet cotton in a pot, we took Naam and let it rest for the night. Little did we know what was in store. The next morning, I was shocked to see that those tiny dry seeds had turned into a full-grown plant overnight! Almost all the seeds had turned into a thick growth with the stems at least 16 cms tall. It displayed all the stages of germination…roots, shoots, buds on stems and full-grown leaves. This was completely against all laws of nature as we know. For HIM, nothing is impossible. ONLY HE can do this with HIS divine hands. We screamed in utter delight, completely stumped by this divine experience. Anaaya was one relieved happy camper! Nitindada pointed out that there was no sunlight and yet the seeds germinated. It tossed all the science lessons out the window.
Looking from the eyes of a child; she was seeking help from the one person she completely depended on, to rescue her. When that support system redirected her to HIM, she must have really believed that ONLY HE was her savior! Rescue HE did and how! I feel so blessed that HE let me witness HIS power when a pure heart has complete faith in HIM.
Nitindada says, “We truly are orphans without HIM. Can you imagine what will happen if we completely depend on just these mortal beings for the help that we seek for lives? That feeling has worked for all the saints; to transform them from human beings to ‘Beings’.” Something clicked inside and I got a feel for what Tukaram Maharaj might have asked for when HE said “लहानपण दे गा देवा”- An earnest prayer to return to innocence.
For this transformation, all I must do is persevere to follow HIS teachings; having faith that one Naam/Remembrance at a time, my mind is being cleansed in HIS loving grace. Nitindada says,” On HIS path, with HIM being on our side, even the seemingly impossible is possible. So, let us not give ourselves any excuses.” This quote helps me tremendously to keep trying with renewed enthusiasm.
** This is a secondary learning, not directly connected to the above share. I made the mistake of writing this share in my diary a few months after the incident had occurred. Over time, memory fades and I could not recollect the most important part of the experience- what were HIS words to her? Nitindada had often told us to write down our experiences as they happen, so that we can relive the same joy again. I wholeheartedly regret not following this instruction thoroughly. Today, I feel I missed out on an opportunity, which possibly could have deepened my understanding as these details make a big difference to the share.
Thank YOU Nitindada, for everything.
With love and gratitude, I bow down at YOUR feet.
