This happened many years ago, but the lesson I learned is very beautiful and as I read it, it just refreshes itself to a joy beyond words...like it just happened.
One Friday evening, Nitin, Vikram, and I went to BJ’s, a wholesale store. As we approached the freezer section, approximately 12-18 feet away, all of sudden Nitin pointed out to a label that was affixed on the top part of the freezer door. He asked me, "Do you know what those French words on the label mean?" I replied, "sort of". Then He asked, "Do you know what sort of things they keep in there?" and I said, "Not really." And at that very moment, the glass door to that freezer swung wide open on its own as if someone was looking inside, and then the freezer door slowly shut on its own. Vikram and I were so amazed because nobody was around, absolutely no one. Vikram found it very amusing and ran to the freezer to check whether the door would open on its own. It was magnetically shut. It was tight; I know there was no way could it have opened on its own without a small tug. So I asked Nitin, "What did You see in there?" I know a Subtle Presence had occurred. He just looked at me and smiled and said nothing.
For me, the inner excitement was extremely overwhelming. Just to get a glimpse of His Subtle Presence was so……. No words to describe it. Physically He was present, standing next to us but subtly showed His presence by opening that door. HE was the doer and the witness, so HE is always present, but my lack of remembrance makes me forget His presence is there with me all the time.
What was even more amazing was that very afternoon when I was at home, I had randomly read a verse from a Sufi book, “Worship God as if you see Him, and remember that even though you see Him not, He still sees you”. Such an experience made this sentence alive. HE is always watching/witnessing/listening to me. It’s just a thought, but this thought has helped me many times while doing my spiritual practices, it brings peace.
