Events 2017 through 2020
I am learning that when things happen repeatedly, Nitin is teaching me something; upon deeper diving, I see a spiritual message. It is beautiful seeing His hand through a series of events, sometimes quickly, sometimes over a course of time. My share centers around the rejection of my Aadhaar card five times in spite of having pertinent documents.
From 2017 to 2020, Shaku (my wife) and I made multiple trips to India and decided to apply for our Aadhaar cards ( a requirement for Indian residents). The first two rejections were in Mumbai and we felt it was better to apply in Goa (our residence). The third time Shaku’s application was approved whereas mine was rejected.
For the fourth time, I went to a different Aadhaar center. I went to a local bank Aadhaar center early in the morning to secure my token after waiting in line. I was given a slot to meet late afternoon. I was sitting in the lobby waiting for my turn and a young man walked in. He looked flustered and people were not responding to him. He came to me and told me in Hindi that his card was stolen. He narrated that he was staying near Goa Railway station. In the night, people attacked him and stole his wallet containing all his money and Aadhaar card. He wanted to get a duplicate card so that he could work. I directed him to go to the lady at the counter to see if she can accommodate him. He was told to come back the next day. I asked him if he had eaten anything and offered him some money. He thanked me and smilingly left. Upon reaching home, I realized that I should have offered him a lot more money than what I had given him.
When I shared my experience of the young man with Nitin, HE said giving more was a good thought but a better choice would have been giving my slot in the line for that day to the young man. He could be working sooner and sustaining for himself. This thought did not occur to me. Consequently, the next day, I learned that my fourth attempt was rejected. Determined to give my 100% effort, I went to a different center for my fifth attempt. My 5th card submission also came back rejected. I was realizing -- He was teaching me something.
I decided to try again, for the 6th time. This time, Suhas and Alpana Kulkarni, Nitin’s devotees, suggested I submit the form to the Collector’s office. Nitin’s Devotee, Mr. Korkankar, graciously signed the form for me. Voila - with His wish, my 6th attempt was approved the next day.
My learnings from this experience:
1. Put 100% effort but without expectations of success and failure. He is the only doer and enabler. His Hand through his Devotees helping me was palpable in the 6th attempt, removing my doership.
2. He was teaching me through these rejections that everything happens as per His wish, for He knows what is good for me.
3. Treat fellow beings as His children and have the heart to help anyone, as we are all His children. I lost an opportunity to be the instrument of help for the young man.
4. The Aadhaar card was symbolic. I should truly rely on Nitin solely for support for HE truly is my only Aadhaar.
